How to Brew

You can discover our in depth black tea brewing guide to learn how to brew the perfect cup of tea. Use these quick steps to brew the perfect cup:

  • 1–2 teaspoons (2-3g) per cup
  • 200ml of fresh filtered boiled water (100°C)
  • Steep 3–5 minutes
  • Enjoy black or with milk

For a teapot, use 1-2 teaspoons per person, 600ml to 1l depending on teapot size, plus one extra teaspoon for the pot. (2 to 3g per person, with an additional 2g for the pot to ensure balance.)

For a stronger cup, use a little more tea and brew for a minute longer. For a lighter cup, simply reduce the leaf and shorten the steeping time. Feel free to experiment to find the balance that makes your perfect cup.

Why Choose This Black Tea

  • Premium Indian provenance from the renowned Assam region
  • Strong, malty character perfect for breakfast or all day drinking
  • Small batch blending for consistency
  • Convenient teabags with loose leaf calibre flavour, ideal for those comparing loose leaf vs tea bags
  • Envelope sealed individual tea bags for freshness and travel
  • Fully compostable, plastic free tea bags crafted from biodegradable materials

This is an excellent choice for customers searching for Assam tea bags, black tea bags, strong tea bags, plastic free tea bags or luxury tea bags.

Production and Leaf Grades

This tea combines the best of both processing methods: the traditional orthodox technique, where leaves are withered, rolled and dried, and the CTC (Crush Tear Curl) method used for many of the world’s strongest black tea bags.

Our Assam Breakfast tea is made from 80 percent smaller orthodox leaves for flavour definition, with 20 percent CTC leaves added for enhanced strength and body. This balance creates a powerful yet polished cup ideal for anyone who prefers strong tea bags.

Origin and Craftsmanship

Assam, with its humid lowland climate, fertile soils and proximity to the Brahmaputra river, produces some of the world’s most robust and distinctive teas. The assamica variety of the Camellia sinensis plant thrives here, developing the bold leaves that define breakfast teas and Assam tea bags.

Harvested at peak summer second flush, these leaves create a brew that is bright, malty and satisfyingly strong. During steeping, the leaves release their signature aromatics, far surpassing the sharp bitterness of standard supermarket Assam tea bags.

Wellbeing and Benefits

Assam black tea is naturally rich in polyphenol antioxidants. It is a powerful yet smooth morning brew that offers a steady caffeine lift and helps support daily focus. Those researching caffeine free tea bags for later in the day often enjoy Assam in the morning for its invigorating, full bodied profile.

Region

Assam Region, India

Assam, located in northeastern India, shares its northern boundary with the Himalayas and Bhutan, and borders Bangladesh to the south. Connected to West Bengal through the narrow Siliguri Corridor, Assam is a region marked by rich geography and abundant natural resources. The Brahmaputra River, originating in Tibet, flows across northern Assam, bringing vital runoff from the high peaks and feeding the valleys. Assam's humid subtropical climate is split between wet and dry seasons, with the wet season extending from April to October, resulting in the highest rainfall in India and often causing severe flooding.

Temperatures range from 11°C to 31°C throughout the year, with little wind. This heavy rainfall creates lush, fertile wetlands, which support a diverse ecosystem. The hillier districts, with elevations up to 600m, experience a temperate climate, providing a distinct environment for tea cultivation. The region’s forests consist of tropical evergreens, deciduous trees, bamboo, and ferns, with many wildlife sanctuaries protecting species such as tigers, leopards, and rhinos. Assam’s teas are known for their rich, malty notes, distinct from Darjeeling’s muscatel flavours.
